I’ve stated that I’m a big fan of the Threadborne Slingflex. That shoe was an excellent pivot from the lack of support given to the Curry 3. I wanted to see more premium monochrome options that would continue to build on the success of the all white, all grey and black releases that have sold through very well on the UA platform.

This new drop… Well it’s kind of like that commercial where the girl is trying to grab the dolllar from the old fisherman in the shoe store. UA almost got it right. The Slinglfex remains a better model in my opinion, but at least the brand is swinging and batting .500 on Threadborne running models.

Here is the description of the shoes

  • Threadborne™ upper for a breathable, compression-like fit that delivers lightweight directional strength
  • Open cell PU sockliner for added step-in comfort
  • Charged Cushioning® midsole uses compression molded foam for even greater responsiveness & durability, providing optimal cushioning & energy return
  • TPU Cage harnesses the energy of the Charged Cushioning® midsole
  • Translucent rubber outsole with high abrasion pods in high wear areas
  • Offset: 8 mm
  • Imported

At what point does the design team begin to utilize debossing or laser branding? The UA Logo isn’t a great effect, and when it is placed on the shoe like a sticker it decreases the attractiveness of the model. The reason I’m so high on the monochrome Slingflex is that the logo is hidden in plain sight. You can see it but it’s not intrusive.

The logo here feels forced. I mean aesthetically on the black shoe why drop a grey logo? I get the branding. It was sorely missing on the Curry 3 from the side, but debossed or lasered etching, or a stitched logo silhouette would have worked much better keeping the lines of the shoe better.

As a matter of when I look at the shoe as a designer I see the D Rose 4. Now most people won’t see that so I’m going to drop two pics below on one of the colors being released. This is not a big deal because unless you are deep into sneakers you wouldn’t have paid attention to this at all.

The Reveal looks like a low top version of the Rose 4

Overall, I think this is a solid attempt by the brand to integrate Threadborne on another release. The outsole is fantastic, pricepoint is good and the colors aren’t bad. I’m just not a fan of the logo being so darn prominent, but it’s a fine line.  Use the source link to see more.
