The ARCH Ellison TR: Update 2

Spread the love

Loading

The ARCH Ellison TR is officially under production. After the first batch of samples and another sample colorway, the final decisions are made.

Total: 120 Pair – As usual I expect damage from the shipment at about 5%. Usually it’s right at 10%, but I have a new manufacturer and I only had to pay for samples once. Which was a very good thing.

Size breakdown:

Size 7 – 5 Pair
Size 8 – 5 Pair
Size 9 – 10 pair
Size 10 – 15 pair
Size 11 – 10 pair
Size 12 – 10 pair
Size 13 – 5 pair

Colors: The color ocha is an Igbo word for white, and the use of Shadow ties the name Ellison to Ralph Ellison’s book of essays Shadow and Act.

Shadow Grey/Cloud-Blk-Ocha

Khaki/Shadow Grey-Blk-Ocha

Materials: Brushed suede, distressed canvas, rubber outsole, EVA foam midsole

Fall release of the shoe will be Black, Navy and Burgundy. I may go with a Chocolate colorway as well. Strategy for sales will consist of distribution through Amazon. I considered a Kickstarter to also develop my casual athletic shirt, but thought that it would be best to really take on the challenge of being profitable without a crutch. It’s not pride or me looking to prove something. This is really a business decision based on sustainability. Crowdfunding was an excellent choice last year. It helped to stabilize the business, but in the world of business a company can not rely on the support of crowdfunding. It skews numbers. The goal is to try and match numbers as an independent brand with a great product that meets the needs of those looking for a great casual athletic shoe with sturdy materials, comfort and less “loud” design. I honestly believe that the person who approaches fashion with a careful subtle eye and attention to detail will appreciate a clean aesthetic in a new shoe.

MSRP: $85.00 with Free Shipping – I will be setting up a pre-order once the shoes are completed and being prepared for shipment. I have to purchase UPC codes for Amazon, but it would be great to sell the shoes through the site and keep the 15% that Amazon takes. This would require customer acquisition and possibly could cost more than the 15%. This decision will be made later.

Look for another update in a week or two.

Stay Motivated!

Oh here are pics of the samples that won’t be made and should not be considered the final product. This is just to give you an idea of the progress.

Note the logo is pointing up, but it doesn’t look bad.

Heel shot shows the embroidery is slightly off. I adjusted this by going monochrome.

The black sample. I’ve changed all logos to the same color as the shoe.

The grey shoe is in production and will not have a white logo.

The Navy colorway will go into production for the fall.

The Khaki colorway is in production and will have a tan side logo with a white tongue logo for a subtle look.

This is the revised sample. Note the monochrome side panel.

Note the suede lace hold to keep the tongue from sliding. This was a big concern. Note the logo is correct also

Here the monochrome look prevents the logo, which has been hard to embroider, from not standing out so much
